Dorset Police Rural Crime Team Update
It has been another busy week for the Rural Crime Team as we continue working to keep our rural communities safe.
✅ Operation Galileo Patrols RCT officers have been deployed on further Operation Galileo patrols this week. This national operation focuses on tackling hare coursing and poaching through targeted patrols aimed at disrupting offenders and preventing rural crime across Dorset. ✅ Pheasant Poaching Investigation RCT officers, alongside response colleagues, attended a report of pheasant poaching in the Morden area. Vehicles linked to the incident were identified and enquiries are ongoing as part of an active investigation. ✅ Community Contact Point PCSO Mike, joined by police volunteer Alan, held a community contact point at Mole Country Stores, Dorchester. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by, speak with us and share information and concerns from your local area. Your support is invaluable. ✅ Road Traffic Collision Involving Deer RCT officers attended a collision involving a vehicle and a deer. Sadly, the deer had died as a result of the collision, and the vehicle sustained significant damage requiring recovery. ✅ Stolen Trailer Recovered Following a series of trailer thefts in the Gillingham area, RCT worked closely with Salisbury Neighbourhood Policing Team. A Dorset officer examined a 2026-model Ifor Williams tipping trailer, and checks with The Equipment Register (TER) revealed it had been reported stolen just two days earlier. ✅ Cross-Border Partnership Working RCT officers identified a vehicle being used in pheasant poaching and circulated intelligence requesting it be stopped. Acting on information provided by Dorset Police, the vehicle was successfully seized by Wiltshire Police on Wednesday, demonstrating the value of effective partnership working across force boundaries. 👮♂️🚔 We remain committed to protecting Dorset's countryside, supporting rural communities, and targeting those involved in rural crime. If you witness suspicious activity, please report it to us via 101 or online. In an emergency, always dial 999.
